Swiss artist Fabian Oefner unites gravity and acrylic paint to yield delicate and fragile ‘orchid’ structures. Oefner fills a tank with several layers of different tones, the top coat being either black or white, and drops a sphere directly into the solution. As the object falls it causes paint to splashes upwards, shaping the layered paint into blossom-like arrangements. The mesmerizing images are captured by Oefner using a high speed camera, freezing a moment that takes place within a fraction of a second.
